Door Glass Repair & Replacement Toronto & GTA
Broken, cracked, or foggy door glass affects both the security and energy efficiency of your home or business. OhMyGlass repairs and replaces glass in all types of doors across the Greater Toronto Area - from patio sliding doors and French doors to front entry doors and commercial entrance systems. In most cases, we replace only the glass panel or insulated glass unit, keeping your existing door frame and hardware intact. This approach typically saves 60 to 80 percent compared to a full door replacement.
What Types of Doors Do We Service?
We work with every common door type found in GTA homes and businesses.
- Patio sliding doors - large glass panels on a track, common in homes with deck or backyard access. We replace the glass unit without removing the door from the frame.
- French doors - double doors with full-length glass panels (lites), often used for dining rooms, patios, and master bedrooms.
- Entry doors with glass inserts - front and side doors with decorative glass panels, sidelights, or transoms.
- Storm doors - exterior screen and glass doors installed over the primary entry door for weather protection.
- Commercial glass entrance doors - swing doors, automatic sliding doors, and vestibule doors in office buildings, retail stores, and restaurants.
- Interior glass doors - office doors, conference room glass, and interior French doors.
Common Door Glass Problems
Door glass is subject to many of the same issues as window glass, plus additional stresses from daily opening and closing.
- Cracked or broken glass - from impacts, forced entry attempts, or thermal stress. Door glass is required by building code to be tempered or laminated safety glass.
- Foggy insulated glass - the sealed unit in a patio door or insulated entry door has failed, causing condensation between the panes.
- Failed seals and drafts - worn weatherstripping or deteriorated glazing seals around the glass panel allow air and water infiltration.
- Difficult sliding - patio and sliding door tracks can accumulate debris, or the rollers and track can wear out, causing the door to drag or stick.
- Broken or worn hardware - locks, handles, and hinges can fail with daily use, compromising security and ease of operation.
Glass Options for Door Replacement
When replacing door glass, the Ontario Building Code requires safety glass in all door applications. We offer several options depending on your priorities.
- Tempered safety glass - the standard for door glass. If broken, it shatters into small granular pieces rather than dangerous shards.
- Laminated safety glass - two panes bonded with a PVB interlayer. Provides enhanced security because the glass holds together even when broken, making forced entry more difficult.
- Low-E insulated glass units - double-pane units with a Low-E coating and argon gas fill for improved energy efficiency. Ideal for patio doors and entry doors exposed to weather.
- Decorative glass - frosted, textured, leaded, or stained glass options for entry doors and sidelights where privacy or aesthetics are important.
- Obscure or privacy glass - diffused or patterned glass that lets light through while blocking visibility, suitable for bathroom doors and side panels.
Our Door Glass Repair Process
Our process is designed to complete most door glass repairs in a single visit with minimal disruption.
- On-site assessment - we inspect the door, identify the glass type and size, check the frame and hardware condition, and confirm building code requirements.
- Glass fabrication or sourcing - tempered and laminated glass must be cut to size and processed before installation, so we take precise measurements on the first visit.
- Careful removal - the damaged glass or IGU is removed without damaging the door frame, weatherstripping, or hardware.
- Installation - the new glass is set and glazed with appropriate gaskets or sealant, and the door is reassembled.
- Operational check - we test the door's opening, closing, locking, and sealing to ensure everything works correctly before completing the job.
